Did you know that 91% of New Englanders read newspapers? More importantly do your advertisers know? How about the fact that 77% of the region’s shoppers rely on the newspaper as their number one source for shopping information?

The findings prove that newspapers are clearly the dominant source of news and advertising in New England. No other sources come close.

More than ten million adults reside in New England; from major metropolitan cities such as Boston, Hartford and Providence to the small rural communities in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. How effectively do the various media, in particular newspapers, reach this diverse mix of communities? That was the goal of the 2005 New England Press Association’s New England Consumer Study. To accomplish these goals NEPA engaged the services of American Opinion Research of Princeton, New Jersey.

This study completed for the New England Press Association has yielded much positive information about the state of reading newspapers in our region. Newspapers are the most effective way of providing information on where to shop, how to vote and where consumers can spend their leisure time. In fact, New England newspapers are better read than newspapers across the country. A copy of this market study is available at no cost to members of the New England Press Association and has proven to be a valuable sales tool. Copies of the survey are available for purchase by non-members.

Based on the findings of the market survey, an advertising campaign has been created to share some of the results of the survey with the public, newspaper advertisers and potential advertisers. These ads are available to ALL New England Newspapers at no cost. These ads should serve your paper in the areas of building readership and advertiser confidence.

In April we will be emailing pdf files of these ads out to all member newspapers to get the word out.

The goal of the New England Press Association is to promote growth and excellence in New England Newspapers. By running these ads as fill in your paper, you’ll help us meet that goal.
