| The Horace Greeley Award
The HORACE GREELEY AWARD shall be presented to a newspaper or individual performing outstanding service to the general public. This service shall be considered "above and beyond" the normal function of writing, publishing or editing for a newspaper. Excellence, dedication, courage and effectiveness in serving the public interest shall be considered the major contributing factors in the selection of candidates to receive this award. The HORACE GREELEY AWARD shall be presented by the New England Press Association to an individual or newspaper selected by the Horace Greeley Committee. The HORACE GREELEY AWARD shall be considered an annual award, but the committee has the right not to present the award if, in the opinion of the committee, a suitable candidate has not been nominated. The intent of the HORACE GREELEY AWARD is to recognize outstanding dedication and achievement by a newspaper or individual in New England. Nominees must be employed by a NEPA-member newspaper, or have been employed by a NEPA-member newspaper of general circulation at which his/her work is being recognized. A suitable plaque, scroll or certificate shall be presented to the winner at the annual winter convention of the New England Press Association. PROCEDURES 2. Two letters listing reasons an individual or newspaper should win the HORACE GREELEY AWARD - one from the individual making the nomination and one from another person who is familiar with the nominee's background and achievements. 3.
